About Paula
Paula Banks
Owner/ Certified Care Manager
Paula Banks, LSW, CMC has been a geriatric social worker licensed in the
State of Maine for over 30 years. She is an ‘Aging Life Care Expert’,
certified by the National Association of Aging Life Care Experts (formerly
known as the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers)
since 2005 and has a certification from the National Academy of
Certified Care Managers. In 2012 Paula was named a Fellow of the Maine
Gerontological Society.
After years of working in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, acute care
hospitals, home care and memory care communities, Paula opened Paula
Banks Consulting, LLC a greater Portland geriatric consulting and care
management firm. Paula assists older adults and their loved ones with short
term and long term care planning and solutions. Paula also owned and managed Two Lights Home Care in Cape Elizabeth, Maine which was sold in 2013. In 2018, Paula opened Compass Concierge and Companions, LLC, a home care organization located in Windham, Maine.
Paula is the author of The ElderCare Revolution, published in 2012 by Legacy
Publishing Company. Paula was a frequent guest on Good Day Maine
between 2009-2013 as their elder care expert. Her articles on aging and
caregiving have been published worldwide. She has a special interest in
mental health and spent 12 years on the Maine Behavioral Health
Development Committee. Paula is also a past Chair of the Board of Trustees at
75 State Street Independent/Assisted Living in Portland, Maine.
Paula has a passion for her family, intergenerational learning, positive
aging, social justice and the prevention of all forms of elder abuse.
WHAT IS A CARE MANAGER?
A Care Manager (sometimes called a geriatric care manager, aging life care specialist, etc.) assists clients & their families attain maximum functional potential and quality of life by coordinating care and support services and providing advice and resources.
Care Managers are able to address a broad range of issues related to the well-being of their client and share their extensive knowledge about the costs, quality, and availability of resources in their communities.
